Gambia MPs extend President Jammeh's term


National assembly has passed a resolution to allow president Yahya Jammen to stay in power for 90 more days despite losing December vote.

According to Gambia national assembly, this adopted resolution will take effect on Wednesday just hour before the end of his official term.

The president who has ruled the country for 22yrs, initially acknowledged opponent Adama Barrow as the winner of the elections in December, but later rejected the ballot counts went on and complained to supreme court.

Barrow who is due to take power on Thursday has insisted that his inauguration will take place as scheduled. The decision of declaring state of emergency was made by the national parliament. But the only parliament people sitting are members of Jammeh,s political party.

According to ECOWAS officials, they said it doesn't matter whether it is been prolonged to three days or one year or 10years, what they want is to see Jammeh step down after midnight on Wednesday, if not ECOWAS and the African Union will intervene to make sure they votes of the Gambians people  to Barrow stands the next day.

Gambia's former foreign minister accused Jammeh of corruption and pillaging state coffers.
"I don't think the Gambian people are prepared to let him off with any more loot from the treasury," Sanneh said.
When asked what it would take for Jammeh to step down voluntarily, Sanneh said: "First and foremost, Jammeh would like to be ensured that he could take along with him all his prized possessions, along with his tremendous financial resources that has been able to gather in [the capital] Banjul.
"Jammeh loves money and that is the only language he understands."
