Manchester City avoid transfer ban after winning Benjamin Garre case

Image
Benjamin Garre joined Manchester City from Velez Sarsfield in 2016 The Argentine club had claimed that the new Premier League champions, who were given a ban from signing certain academy players by the league last year, broke FIFA rules when they signed teenager Benjamin Garre in 2016. Garre was 16 at the time but Argentine officials accused City of tapping him up when he was still 15, pointing to FIFA rules that say no player can leave their home country until they are 18, unless the player's parents move countries for "non-footballing reasons". FIFA agreed with City, however, saying that because Garre holds an Italian passport he was free to leave Argentina after his 16th birthday. Velez then took the case to the CAS and City were facing the prospect of being banned from registering any new players for two transfer windows, similar to previous punishments given to Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and Real Madrid. Velez could yet make a technical appeal again

Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero reveals keyhole surgery on knee

Image
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has undergone keyhole surgery on his left knee. The Argentine, 29, has been troubled by the problem for the past five weeks and missed Saturday's 3-1 Win at Tottenham. "Recovering from an arthroscopy on my knee. Fully motivated to get back soon to the field," Aguero wrote on Twitter. No timescale for his recovery has been given but, with City already crowned Premier League Champions ,  the World Cup will be his target. Aguero has not started a game since City's victory over Chelsea on 4 March. He returned to action as a late substitute in the derby defeat to Manchester United on 7 April, and again appeared as a substitute in the Champions League quarter-final second-leg loss to Liverpool three days later. The knee problem subsequently ruled him out of the victory over Spurs at Wembley. Speaking before that match, City boss Pep Guardiola said he was unsure when Aguero would be fit again. "I don't know

Mourinho claimed several players who appeared in Sunday's defeat 'don't have a place' in his team for Saturday's semi against Tottenham

Jose Mourinho warned he will be ruthless after Sunday's surprise defeat    Jose Mourinho is prepared to leave senior Manchester United players out of next Saturday’s FA cup  semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur , having insisted he cannot select them based on “the price they cost” or their “beautiful face”. United handed the Premier League title to rivals Manchester City on Sunday by suffering a shock home defeat to the top-flight’s bottom club West Bromwich Albion. Jay Rodriguez’s 73rd-minute header punished Mourinho’s pedestrian side for failing to break down their well-organised visitors and earned West Bromwich their first win on the road in the league since August. He went on and  described his players as “masters of complication” after their limp display, which came despite the United manager naming a strong starting line-up including Romelu Lukaku, Alexis Sanchez and Paul Pogba. United return to Premier League action on Wednesday night on the south coast at Bour
